The trade magazine Konstrukce focused on a new trend coming from residential to industrial construction: the increased use of timber in the development of new buildings. On this topic, it interviewed directly the co‑owner of the Progresus Group, Lukáš Zrůst.

There is no doubt about the positive relationship to the use of sustainable materials in the case of the Progresus Group ‑ thanks to the RD Rýmařov production plant from its portfolio, more than 100,000 clients already live in sustainable wooden buildings. "We have extensive experience with wood as a construction material thanks to more than 26,000 family and apartment houses built using precision prefabrication. Wood is lightweight, durable, renewable, environmentally friendly and has a proven positive effect on people's psychological well‑being," said Lukáš Zrůst in an interview.

Our group sees timber buildings not only as the emerging future of residential construction, but also of industrial buildings. "In terms of sustainability and architectural quality, we believe that wood has a strong place in the construction of industrial halls, for example as a load‑bearing element of roof structures. It brings environmental benefits, reduces the carbon footprint and creates a more pleasant working environment," adds Lukáš Zrůst.

In our projects we are inspired by examples from abroad, where wood is a common part of industrial construction. Our group has established a collaboration with the renowned Danish architectural studio Henning Larsen, the designer of Europe's largest logistics centre, Bestseller Logistics Center West, which uses wood as a key construction material.

According to Lukáš Zrůst, the main obstacle to the expansion of the use of wood in industrial development in the Czech Republic is legislation, especially in the area of fire safety solutions. "We believe that the positive opinion of the Fire Brigade in 2024 will bring positive change in the Czech Republic, which will allow us to participate in the creation of sustainable and modern industrial wooden buildings," he added.
